Using Poisson Distribution in football is a straightforward process, what you are calculating is a predicted number of goals for both sides from which you can calculate such areas as match result, total goals and both teams to score as well as many more. To calculate the goals there are a number of steps to take from looking at last season league performance overall for goals scored and conceded and then you look at both team’s individual for goals scored and conceded.
From all of the data gathered you can then get a chance percentage of each score outcome which you can then turn into a chance percentage, so if you are looking at the Full Time result you would take all of the scores in favour of the home team and that would end up as their chance percentage and the same for draw and the away side, you then convert those chance percentages into odds.
Once you have the odds you can then compare those odds to the current odds available to see if you can find any value in the odds, everyone has a different way of going about what is value, on here we look for a significant difference for there to be value.
